Inspiring Detroit Youth
As part of the AutoSens and InCabin 2024 USA conference at Huntington Place, the Detroit Autonomous Vehicle Group (DAVG), RumiCar, and B.L.A.C.K. organized an on-site workshop for young minds in the Motor City. The event was part of B.L.A.C.K.'s Taste of Tech series, which helps young people find their passion for creativity and innovation.
During the event, the kids learned how to build a small autonomous vehicle of their own, with support from Brose Group, PIX Moving, and The Autoware Foundation. In addition, they gained hands-on experience with 3D vehicle modeling in TinkerCAD, a free, browser-based design program from Autodesk used in classrooms to introduce students to computer-aided design. To close out the event, a panel of industry leaders talked the kids through their roles, offering a firsthand look at the career paths and engineering specialties behind autonomous vehicle development. They also participated in a thought-leadership Q&A with the panel, gaining insight into the skills and education that could shape their futures in technology, automotive, and engineering.
